Hickman Holder

Hickman Holder or Central Line Holder provides comfort for cancer patients. Designed to improve comfort, support and safety for those requiring the Hickman Line.

These pouches are finished size, six inches tall by four inches wide, with a soft pull cord to open and close them.

They are fully lined and are made from 100% cotton that has been washed and dried to remove any dyes, chemicals or smells.

Cancer patients have immune compromised systems and therefore it is important to be sure that the fabric is 100% cotton and fully washed and dried. This can be done by hand or machine.

The technique in these instructions simplifies the process of assembly line production when making these little bags: Wash/Dry Fabric, Iron fabric, Cut Fabric, Sew Fabric, Insert Pull Cord, Iron finished product and package.

"Dear Hickman Holder producer,

Thank you for your beautiful Hickman Holder which accompanied me through 86 days of recovery from cancer.

I am an MDS patient who underwent chemotherapy and then a successful bone marrow transplant. From Day 20 (Dec 6) when I was discharged from VGH and started being taken care of by Bone Marrow Transplant Day Care, up to Day 105 (today) when my condition is considered stable enough for the Hickman Line to be pulled, I used a beautiful Hickman Holder everyday.

Today I came home with no Hickman Line hanging from my chest. I washed my Hickman Holder, folded and slipped it back into the original transparent plastic pocket with the label card, and filed it in my MDS folder, which will be taking less and less of my attention.

These fully lined and washable pull string bags are made to alleviate the drag or pull of the I.V. lines attached to a Hickman Port.

Intermediate Sewing Instructions

A Hickman Port can have one to three I.V. lines attached to it. The Port delivers the medication to the location most needed by patients. Cancer patients in particular can benefit from these little Hickman Holders.
